Here to Make a Difference

CARE PACK (Canine-Assisted Response to Emergency) is a community of certified, operationally trained therapy dog teams dedicated to providing trauma-informed emotional support during emergency, critical incidents, disasters, and times of crisis.

Our therapy dogs and experienced handlers bring comfort, connection, and compassion to individuals, families, bystanders, first responders, and communities affected by stressful or traumatic events.

We recognize that any emergency impacts more than those directly involved. Patients, loved ones, witnesses, and entire communities can be affected by a crisis. Because those who care for others deserve care too, CARE PACK also supports the first responders and emergency personnel who stand beside communities during their most difficult moments.

Through the unique bond between people and therapy dogs, we help create moments of calm, connection, and hope in the midst of chaos. Whether offering a quiet presence, a comforting paw, or a moment of emotional grounding, our teams are here to support healing when it is needed most.

Why We Call Them CARE PACK Trauma Buddies

At CARE PACK, we call our therapy dogs Trauma Buddies because that’s exactly what they are—companions who walk beside people during some of life’s most difficult moments.

When someone is experiencing stress, crisis, grief, trauma, illness, or recovery, a Trauma Buddy offers something powerful: a calm presence, unconditional acceptance, and a connection that requires no words.

They don’t fix the problem. They don’t judge. They simply stay present, offering comfort, safety, and support when it is needed most.

To us, the word Buddy reflects the unique bond between a therapy dog and the people they serve—a trusted friend who shows up with compassion, one paw at a time.

Why Therapy Dogs Matter

Therapy dogs have a remarkable ability to help people feel safe, calm, and connected during times of stress, trauma, and emotional overwhelm.

Research has shown that simply being in the presence of a therapy dog—or interacting through petting, touch, or companionship—can help reduce stress and promote the release of oxytocin, often called the ā€œfeel-good hormone.ā€ This natural response can support emotional regulation, create a sense of safety, and help calm the body’s stress response.

As stress levels decrease, people may experience a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, more relaxed breathing, and an increased sense of comfort and connection. For individuals affected by emergencies, critical incidents, or traumatic events, these moments of regulation can be an important first step toward healing.

Beyond the science, therapy dogs offer something that is difficult to measure but deeply felt. They provide unconditional acceptance, a calming presence, and quiet companionship during life’s most challenging moments. Without judgment, expectation, or the need for words, they help people feel seen, supported, and less alone.

At CARE PACK, we believe these extraordinary dogs willingly share their energy, compassion, and presence to help bring calm to those experiencing crisis. Whether supporting a frightened child, a grieving family member, a distressed bystander, or a first responder after a difficult call, therapy dogs have a unique ability to create moments of connection, comfort, and hope when they are needed most.
