Meet Bree

Hi, I am Bree.

My mom gave me a fancy registered name for when I am a show dog, but
everyone knows me as Bree. I am a “beautiful girl” according to a lot of people.

When I was adopted by my family, my mom knew right away that I was special. She took me to
lots of classes and I got to be around lots of different people and dogs. We would go to a variety
of places and experience a lot of stuff. I really like making people happy.

My mom said there was a saying, “Smile. Pass it on!” Well, I am a great smiler and people smile along with me. It sure is a great feeling. That’s when my mom thought maybe I should be a Therapy Dog.

Being a Therapy Dog is a very important job for me. I love my work shirt. That’s what people call
a bandana. I get super excited when my mom says, “Bree, get your work shirt. It’s time to go
and make people happy!” I wag my tail and smile from ear to ear! Meeting new friends is the
best.

I especially love to see the kids at school. Kids are so much fun. They laugh at my tricks and
when I am naughty. Sometimes, I will grab their papers. They always laugh at me when I do
that. Sometimes, my little friends might be having a sad day or they are not feeling well. I just
know that they need me, and I will go and sit with them. Sometimes, I just sense what a little
friend needs, and I try to make them feel better.

The kids at school like to snuggle with me and they have told me that I make them happy and calm. Hearing that makes my heart grow full!

I also made a lot of friends when I would visit the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic 911
Communication Centre. I could feel lots of feelings when I went in there. They have very
important jobs and sometimes they deal with scary and sad stuff. I just would know when my
friends would need a little extra care on my visits to see them. I really made my friends there
happy on special days.

I am a golden retriever and I like to hold things in my mouth. I don’t know why, but it sure makes people laugh. My mom will give me all kinds of things to hold. I think my favourite thing is the basket with eggs or the trick or treat bag.

Therapy Dogs need time to rest after visiting with people. My friends and I take in a lot of
energy. We found that out last summer when we helped people from Northern Manitoba who
had to leave their homes because of forest fires. My Therapy Dog friends and I sure did put a lot
of smiles on those people’s faces. I was tired after taking so much sadness after visiting them. It
was worth it though! We were all so happy when my new friends could go home to their
communities.

I love going to lots of places with my family. I love to run on the beach and swim! I love chasing
a stick in the water too. My favourite things are running and sniffing stuff to alert my mom. I have
friends at the different dog events my mom takes me to. I love going for walks at Assiniboine Park and meeting my friends at The Forks.

This August (2026), I will be participating in The Golden Retriever Club of Canada’s National Specialty in East St. Paul. I will be doing a lot of different stuff there. You should come and meet me! I would love to put a smile on your face!

My little friend, Boo asked me to join Care Pack. I hope you have fun meeting me and my
friends. We have a very important job to do, and that’s to help people feel better.
